Olivia Prior grew up mute and surrounded by shades only she can see. Having lost hope of family, she is surprised when a letter arrives from her uncle, who has been searching for her, calling his niece home to Gallant. But when she arrives, Olivia is informed that her uncle has been dead for a year. While her cousin Mathew tries to convince the servants to send her away, Olivia finds herself drawn through a wall into a dark reflection of Gallant Manor, ruled by a shadowy Master, with even darker ambitions.
